for Matthew Wilson

Wilson came to American in 1832 and settled in Brooklyn where he resided for most of the rest of his life. He began exhibiting portraits at the Academy in 1841 and continued to do so, sporadically, until 1885.
In March, 1888, he was one of nine associate members to be dropped from membership in the Academy for having failed to exhibit in the annuals for the previous two years.
