Born in 1908, Lou Barlow studied at the National Academy of Design and in Europe during the 1930s. He was a war artist for the United States Army during World War II in Africa and Italy and worked on the Graphics Arts Project of the WPA. Mr. Barlow taught at the Parsons School of Design, New York, until 1998. The artist is represented by the Associated Artists of America Gallery, Sylvan Cole Gallery, Susan Teller Gallery, and the Sragow Gallery, all in New York. He lives and works in New York City.

Numerous group exhibitions include the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Santa Clara Art Museum, CA; Davidson Gallery, Seattle; Associated Artist of America Gallery; Mary Ryan Gallery; Sculpture Center; New York Watercolor Society; and the ACA Gallery, New York. Barlow's work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Fort Sam Houston, U.S. Army; New-York Historical Society; Boston Public Library; British Museum, London; Library of Congress; National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution; Amon Carter Museum; Museum of the City of New York; and the New York Public Library. Mr. Barlow is a member of the New York Watercolor Club and the American Watercolor Society.
