Born in Boston, MA, 1918, Loring W. Coleman studied at the Middlesex School, Concord. MA, and at the Scott Carbee School of Art, Boston. As Head of Art Department at the Middlesex School, he taught painting, sculpture, and art history. Mr. Coleman currently lives and works in Harvard, MA, and is represented by Francesca Anderson Fine Art, Lexington, MA.

One-person exhibitions include Retrospective, Concord Art Association, MA; Francesca Anderson Fine Art, MA; St. Botolph Club, Boston; Central Place Galleries, ME; Shore Galleries, Boston; and Concord Art Association. Group exhibitions include the American Watercolor Society; Knickerbocker Artists, New York; High Art Museum; Munson Gallery; Milton College, WI; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; and the Addison Gallery of American Art. Mr. Coleman's work is in the collections of the Salmagundi Club; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Butler Institute of American Art; Parrisch Art Museum; Canton Art Institute; Fitchburg Art Museum; and the Concord Public Library, MA. Publications include illustrations of his watercolors included in The Best of Watercolor and The Best of Watercolor 2; work discussed in Watercolor Your Way by Carl Schmalz; and articles in American Artist. Mr. Coleman is the recipient of the Strathmore Paper Co. Award, 7th Biennial North American Show, New England Watercolor Society; Elizabeth K. Ellis Artists' Fellowship Award, Salmagundi Club; Gold Medal, Director's Choice, 16th Annual Almost Miniature Show; several prizes, Concord Art Association; Gold Medal of Honor, Salmagundi Club; Lifetime Achievement Award, New England Watercolor Society; American Artists Professional League Award; First Prize, New England Watercolor Society; Andrew Carnegie Award and a Ranger Fund Purchase Award at several National Academy of Design Annuals; and a NEWS Award, Guild of Boston Artists.
