Joseph Lasker studied at the Cooper Union Art School and in Mexico. Among his honors were the Edwin Austin Abbey Memorial Scholarship, the Altman Prize, and the Halgarten Prize, all from the National Academy; a Prix de Rome from the American Academy in Rome; and a Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship. His paintings are in the collections of public institutions such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the Hirshhorn Museum, Washington, D.C.; the Philadelphia Museum of Art; and the Baltimore Museum of Art. He was also a muralist and illustrated a number of books for children.
