Edward Melcarth studied at the Westminster School, London; Harvard University; with Karl Zerbe in Boston, MA; and at Hayter's Atelier 17, Paris. Among his honors were the Benjamin Altman Figure Prize and the Ranger Purchase Award, NAD; the Altman Prize, the Art Institute of Chicago; and a grant from the American Institute of Arts and Letters. As well as a muralist, his easel paintings are found in public collections such as: the Whitney Museum of American Art; the Museum of Fine Art, Boston; the Art Institute of Chicago and the Detroit Institute of Fine Art, Michigan.
