Label TextHaving been elected Associates before the introduction of the portrait requirement, neither of the Mounts were under any obligation to present their images to the Academy. There is no record in minutes of the receipt of Shepherd Mount's Self-Portrait or of his William Sydney Mount; that both paintings were included in the 1846 annual exhibition, listed as belonging to the Academy, suggests they had been received within the previous year. When his self-portrait was included in a small memorial presentation within the Winter exhibition of 1868-69, its catalogue listing was noted "Painted 1833."
