Label TextWhen the Academy formally accepted this portrait, it was thought to have been painted by De Witt McClellan Lockman. However, the list of acquisitions presented at the annual meeting the following spring identified it as a self-portrait. During a visit to the Academy in 1987, Ben Ali Haggin, Jr., confirmed that his father had executed the painting.
