Label TextTypical of Foster's late work, this painting came to the Academy under the terms of the artist's will. He instructed that a painting from his estate be selected to replace his diploma contribution, Hillside, Evening, which had been accepted on December 5, 1904. Foster's friends George Gardner Symons and Douglas Volk made the selection on behalf of the Council. Hillside, Evening presumably was returned to the estate, as it was not represented in any subsequent inventory review of the Academy's collection.
