Ethel Magafan studied at the Colorado Spring Fine Arts Center, Colorado. Among her honors are: a Tiffany Fellowship; A Hallgarten, a Ranger, a Kirk Memorial, and an Altman Prize, the National Academy of Design; the Morrison Award, The Oakland Art Gallery; the American Watercolor Society; Audubon Artists; and several Childe Hassam Purchase Awards, the American Academy of Arts & Letters. Her work is included in public collections such as: the Metropolitan Museum of Art; the Newark Museum, New Jersey; the Denver Art Museum; the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center; the Chrysler Art Museum, Norfolk, Virginia; and the Des Moines Art Center, Iowa. She has also executed murals in Washington, D.C., Nebraska, Oklahoma and Colorado.
