Ben Kamihira studied at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia. Among his awards are the Hallgarten and Altman Prizes, National Academy of Design; a Cresson Fellowship; a Scheidt Scholarship; and a Lippincott Award, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; a Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship, and a Childe Hassam Purchase Fund Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. His paintings are in public collections such as the Whitney Museum of American Art; the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; the Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota, Florida; and the Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, Ohio. His teaching assignments include the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; the Philadelph Museum School of Art; and Pennsylvania State University.
