Esteban Vicente studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, Madrid, Spain. Among his awards are: two Ford Foundation Grants; a Tamarind Lithography Workshop Fellowship, and the Saltus Gold Medal, NAD. His work is in public collections such as: The Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, NY; the Metropolitan Museum of Art; the Guggenheim Museum; the Museum of Modern Art; the Whitney Museum of American Art; the Hirshhorn Museum and the National Museum of American Art, Washington, DC; the Newark Museum, NJ; and the Tate Gallery, London. His many teaching assignments include: The University of Puerto Rico; the University of California, Berkeley and Los Angeles; Princeton University; and the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculptor.
