Conover received his artistic education at the Philadelphia (Pennsylvania) Museum School of Industrial Art, the Art Students League, New York, and the Brooklyn (New York) Museum School. Working as both a painter and printmaker he quickly established a strong reputation; in 1950 his work was included in the New York Museum of Modern Art's exhibition Painters of the Twentieth Century. In 1951 he began teaching painting and graphics at the New York for Social Research, and has subsequently provided instruction at both the Brooklyn Museum School and the Newark (New Jersey) School of Fine and Industrial Arts. His abstract works have been frequently exhibited in New York and Philadelphia. Conover is a member of the Society of American Graphic Artists.
