for Wallace Morgan

After graduating from Albany High School, Morgan studied in the life and antiques classes at the National Academy school from 1890 to 1897. Meanwhile, from 1889 to 1908, he worked in the art department of the New York Herald and then became an instructor at the Art Students League. During World War I, he served as a pictorial historian under General John J. Pershing and upon returning to the United States he resumed his career as a graphic artist and illustrator. He became one of the most prominent illustrators working in the United States and provided illustrations for stories by such authors as Somerset Maugham, Julian Street, and P.G. Wodehouse. From 1929 to 1936 he served as president of the Society of Illustrators and from 1946 until his death he was its honorary president.
