American, 1866 - 1924
Bacon began his architectural studies in the office of Chamberlain & Whidden in Boston, and then entered the firm or McKim, Mead & White in New York. Between 1897 and 1902, in partnership with James Brite and the firm, he built a number of public buildings and private houses in the New York area. He worked independently for the remaining years of his career, although frequently collaborating with a number of sculptors, including Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Daniel Chester French, on the creation of monumental works. The crowning achievement of Bacon's career, and his best-known work is the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D. C.
