Label TextAs Franzén automatically became an Associate of the Academy in 1906, when it merged with the Society of American Artists, he was not required to observe the Academy's portrait requirement. It seems that he chose to honor the regulation nonetheless. In a 1907 Bar Harbor newspaper interview, Franzén was described by the reporter as then being at work on a self-portrait intended for the Academy.
