Label TextThe influence of Grimes's employer and mentor, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, is obvious in the low-relief modeling of this work, and its elegant calligraphic inscription. When she presented it to the Academy, Grimes stated that she considered it the best portrait relief that she had ever made.
Another cast of the sculpture, then in the possession of Mrs. Harold T. Clement of Buffalo, New York, presumably the sitter's mother, was exhibited in the Seventeenth Annual Exhibition of the Buffalo (New York) Fine Arts Academy at the Albright Art Gallery in 1923.
