Label TextThis simple yet strikingly handsome bust of a young man is a reminder of the sculptor's long affiliation with the fishing villages of Cape Ann, Massachusetts. The youth is shown here with short hair, swept back, his head turned somewhat to the right and mouth slightly open. The bust terminates at the middle of the shoulders and shows part of a bare chest.
Hancock exhibited this bust at the National Academy in 1936 and, that same year, a replica, possibly the one shown at the Academy, was purchased by the Pennsylvania Academy.
The bust was accepted as Hancock's diploma work in 1939.
