Label TextHardin specialized in carving wood sculptures of religious subjects. His father was a Presbyterian minister and many members of his family were preachers. During Hardin's career he received numerous commissions from churches, including from the Interchurch Center on Riverside Drive in Manhattan. For Hardin the Bible was an unending source of subject matter. In 1961 he remarked that "Protestant churches in America should use sculpture not only as an integral part of their architecture, but as free standing pieces…. good sculpture can speak directly to the hearts and spirits of our communities which today suffer such a conflict of pressures and are more than ever in need of spiritual direction."n.d.
