Label TextFaulkner and Grimes were close friends, and members of the artist colony associated with Augustus Saint-Gaudens in Cornish, New Hampshire. This work was accepted as Grimes's ANA diploma presentation on the condition that one of the required size be presented within one year, however, as was common with such resolutions, no action was ever taken, either to replace the portrait--or question Grimes standing as a member.
