Label TextSmedley and Wiles were often linked in the press for their similar portrait styles. Both came to portraiture late in their careers. They are known to have taken a trip to Holland together in 1904.Note: Smedley used this portrait as a substitution in 1906 for his first diploma portrait, accepted reluctantly by the Council on March 28, 1898.
