Object number1417-P
Label TextA thickly painted sketch, Wiggins's diploma piece exhibits a typical subject for the artist. The golden brown-greenish tonality, the opaque sky, and the indication of mist along the ground are not unusual, but Wiggins's use of vigorous broken brushwork is something of a departure from his usually softer style. The isolated pairing of the dead and live tree adds to the drama of the forceful technique.
