Label TextFrench painter Paul Seignac painted in the realist tradition and specialized in domestic interiors with children in the roles of adults. Contemporaries particularly appreciated his lighting effects and soft colors, which lent particular charm to his depictions of working-class life in the manner of Édouard Frère (1819-1886) and Théophile Emmanuel Duverger (1821-ca. 1901), whose works are also represented in Suydam's collection.
