Label TextThis portrait is first recorded in the schedule of property published by the Academy in 1843, however it clearly had been in the collection for at least the previous year. As a founder of the Academy, Inman was not required to present a portrait of himself to its collection, however, it is likely Mooney took this image of his master at about the time the Academy's portrait regulation was instituted in 1839, for the purpose of presentation. It is probably this portrait was also cut down in modern times from somewhat larger dimensions.
