Label TextThe careers of Isham and Cox were linked by their French training and common interest in idealized female figures and their successful endeavors as writers on art. Their elections as associate members came simultaneously; they agreed to paint each other's diploma portrait. As in Cox's depiction of Isham (291-P), the subject is seated, presumably in a studio. An element of informality is introduced by the copy of McClure's Magazine which Cox holds.
