Label TextThis small landscape and genre scene is typical of those by Lambinet which enjoyed some popularity in Amercia at mid-century. The setting is probably a French village in Brittany.
Two works by Laminet were listed in the catalogue of Goupil's exhibition of a group of contemporary French paintings sent to New York by E. Gambert for exhibition in 1857: Return from Labor and Road to Ezonville [sic], numbers 109 and 110, respectively. Neither title can be surely attached to the two paintings by Lambinet in Suydam's possession at his death. However, the content of these large sale exhibition was somewhat fluid; it is possible Suydam made these purchases from the source stated by the writer for the Crayon said, but the works were not among the those named in the published exhibition listing.
