Label TextTypical of Jones's small-scale scenes, Landscape falls into a category dubbed by one Art Interchange critic, his "green-river-bank-and-russet-autumnal-tree landscape combination." Solidly constructed, quiet, and with a prominent body of water, the painting features a carefully worked tangle of leaves, brush, twigs, and branches pierced occasionally by the autumnal light behind. The completeness of finish demonstrated here led Eugene Neuhaus to classify Jones as one of "those who cannot see the tree for the leaves."
