Label TextJones devoted most of his artistic talents to engraving and only produced a few genre paintings during his career. The genre paintings were created in the late 1840s and early 1850s following a period of artistic study in Paris and London. The subject of this work is reminiscent of Charles Perrault's story of "Little Red Riding Hood," a popular subject in 19th-century genre painting.
