Label TextA letter to the Council read at the meeting on 7 April 1924 expressed the wish of Johnson's widow to replace the early likeness of Johnson by his brother (675-P) with a better portrait. Two years later she offered the present Self-Portrait to the Academy. The original portrait, however, was not withdrawn from the collection.
