Eric Sloane changed his name in honor of his teacher at the Art Students League, John Sloan. Eric Sloan also studied at the Yale University School of Fine and Applied Arts, NYC. Among his honors were: the Freedoms Foundation (Valley Forge) Leadership Award, and gold medals from the Hudson Valley Art Association, NY, and the Meriden Art Association, Conn. He was a mural painter and illustrator with a long list of books on Americana to his credit. He was a founder of the Sloane-Stanley Museum and Kent Furnace, Connecticut.
