Poole graduated from Princeton University in 1904. He then travelled to Europe where he studied at the Royal Academy in Munich and in Paris at the Acad‚mie des Beaux-Arts and at the Sorbonne under Lucia Simon.

In 1921 he married Mercedes de Acosta, an author, whom he divorced in 1935. Later he marrie Marion Skerten.

Poole settled in the artists' colony at Lyme, CN, where he lived next door to Ivan Olinsky. In 1940 Poole exhibited his portraits at Feragil Galleries.
