Gajin Fujita (b.1972) is a Los Angeles-based painter whose work combines Japanese and American cultural references, stylistic motifs, and artistic processes. Fujita cites his parents, who immigrated to the US from Japan, as his earliest creative influences. In 1997, he received a BFA from Otis College of Art and Design, followed by an MFA from the University of Nevada Las Vegas in 2000. In 2019, Fujita received an honorary doctorate from Otis College of Art & Design. Fujita’s work has been exhibited extensively, including recent solo exhibitions True Colors (2023) at L.A. Louver in Venice, California, and Blessings and Curses (2024) at Buchmann Galerie in Berlin, as well as in museum shows at LACMA, the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, and others. His work can be found in the permanent collections of LACMA, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Hammer Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Toledo Museum of Art, Getty Research Institute, among others.
