British, b. 1943
Carole Robb was born in Scotland and studied painting at the Glasgow School of Art and the University of Reading England (MFA 1979). Her grandiose images coincide with the scale and theme of her work. Robb travels from New York to London and Rome to rediscover the romantic and aesthetic atmosphere of each of these cities, catching couples embracing in the same locations that couples embraced centuries ago. Her work studies personal relationships and the romances and emotions that cohabit them. As Robb says in her own words, “Every generation rediscovers passion…We can look back at the epic tale of the love affair between Paris and Helen of Troy that started a war to see the moral complexities of love, but in its simplest form it’s to do with emotional connection… 27 centuries later we still feel the immediate emotional connection.”
Major awards include the British Prix de Rome, a Fulbright award, and a British Arts Council Major Award. Robb has worked in Rome, Venice, New York and London.
