William Joseph Thompson

Thompson studied at the Rhode Island School of Design under Vladimir Raemaesch; at the Cranbrook Academy of Art under William McVey; and at the Art Students League, New York, under Kuniyoshi. He was a member of the faculties of Ohio State University and the University of Georgia.

Among his major public works are a limestone relief for St. Christopher's Church, Columbus, Ohio (1962); four portal reliefs for the First Congretional Church, also in Columbus (1964); a full-length cast stone sculpture of John F. Kennedy for the Student Union, University of Dayton, Ohio (1964); a statue of Richard B. Russell for the State of Georgia (1973-75); and The Andersonville Prisoners of War Memorial for Andersonville Cemetary, Georgia (1975).
