Wu is the daughter of the Chinese painter Tzao-Bin Wu and was educated at the California School of Fine Arts (1939-1942), at the National Academy School (1942-1944), and at Columbia University (1944-1950). She studied with Ralph Stackpole, Spencer Macky, Georg Lober, and Oronzio Malderelli. Her work has earned many awards,including the Academy's Dessie Greer Prize which she won in 1965 for The Virgin. Her large bas-relief honoring the American Mother was executed for The Chinese Community in New York in 1952. Since 1960, she has been active in the New York Chinese School. She is a member of the National Sculpture Society, the Allied Artists of America, the Knickerbocker Artists, and the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club.
