for Samuel Chamberlain
American, 1895 - 1975
The photographer, etcher, and author, Chamberlain graduated from the University of Washington, Seattle, and then studied architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. During World War I, he served in the American Field service of the French Army. By the time he returned to the United States after the war, he had decided that he preferred to record buildings rather than to design them and, therefore, began working as an etcher and photographer. In the following years, he produced many sketches and photographs of American and European scenery and produced over forty books including Sketches of Northern Spanish Architecture, Domestic Architecture in Rural France, Tudor Homes of England, and Cape Cod in the Sun.
