Marie Danforth PageANA 19271869 - 1940

Page was the daughter of John Nourse Danforth and Hannah Maria Rhodes. She grew up in a musical atmosphere as both parents were accomplished singers. She graduated from the Gannett Institute, studied art briefly with Helen Knowlton, Frank Duveneck, and Abbott Thayer, and attended the school of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, where she studied under Frank Benson and Edmund Tarbell. She married Bostonian Dr. Calvin Gates [Bates?] Page in 1896.

She was a portrait painter, specializing in studies of mothers and children. To give her works a sense of realism, she often went to charity homes for models. She was represented by Grand Central Art Galleries in New York.
