Label TextSet in Rome, Weems’ Italian Dreams largely takes place in Cinecittà, the studio of filmmaker Federico Fellini. The video is structured like a dream sequence in which a protagonist - at times played by Weems herself - moves through the grounds and halls of Cinecittà, where both erotic and platonic encounters unfold. Recurring throughout the video is a scene of a window that opens to a blue sky, dusted with falling snow. Beneath the window sits a woman at work, with her back to the camera, in what looks to be an artist's studio, embodying the surreal isolation and repetition of an artist’s life.
