Label TextWith a particular interest in both music and rendering interior spaces, Barbara Grossman's works often combine elements of decoration with some enigmatic multi-figure narrative. "Vermeer's Floor" relates to earlier works by the artist with explicit musical themes. Here, however, rhythm and melody are merely suggested by the syncopated decoration of the floor, the flattened perspective and use of the mirror, and the punctuation of saturated color throughout the composition.
