Label TextColescott is known for his satirical prints on social and political issues and everyday occurrences. This work stems from the artist's boredom while swimming at a university pool. In his routine of doing laps, he imagined things, such as an alligator, shark, or sea serpent in the water as well. Typically, he has exaggerated and distorted form to suit his theme. The colors add to the liveliness of the scene. Colescott taught at the University of Wisconsin in Madison for more than thirty-five years and built its printmaking department into one of the strongest in the nation.
