Label TextThe human figure, and in particular its movement, is central to Lorraine Shemesh's work. The artist has a complex working method from initial sketch to finished painting. From the mid-1990s until recently, Shemesh created series of works that depicted bodies in water-a difficult subject because of the physical distortions and light refractions that occur. Propellor illustrates not only how the artist overcame the challenges inherent in the subject, but also serves as a window into her working process. This highly detailed drawing served as the preparatory study for a larger finished painting.
