Label TextBruce Gagnier studied at Williams College and completed his M.F.A. at Columbia University under sculptor Peter Agostini. He adopted similar textural qualities to Agostini that sometimes blurred the lines between representation and abstraction. Gagnier works from memory rather than from models to create figures that appear to quiver or writhe. "Otom II" is part of a series of twisting figures that reflect the artist's varied interests from Ancient and Baroque sculpture to the bronzes of Giacometti.
