Label TextThe painting for which Folinsbee won a Julius Hallgarten Prize in the Academy's 1917 annual exhibition was entitled "Canal in Winter." As no record was retained of the dimensions or other identifying characteristics of works shown in that annual, it is not possible to determine the relationship of that painting-if any-to Folinsbee's diploma- presentation work. The inscription on the reverse of the present work, including the title the work carries, surely was added after it was accepted into the Academy's collection because "NA" would not have been appended to the artist's name before that time.
