Label TextWilliam Adams Delano (ANA 1934; NA 1937) graduated from Yale in 1895, studied at Columbia University and, in 1899, at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He entered the architectural firm of Carr‚re and Hastings in New York where one of his first assignments was to work on the drawings for the New York Public Library. In 1903, he opened his own office in partnership with Chester Holmes Aldrich. Among his many archtectural acheivements are the Walters Art Gallery in Baltimore (1905), the Knickerbocker Club in New York (1914), and the Marine Terminal at Laguardia Airport. He assisted in the planning of the Federal Triangle in Washington and designed the suburban community of Muttontown, Long Island.
Delano is shown in this oval portrait relief in profile, facing left, and wearing a coat and tie. The work has a gold patina.
