Label Text"The Wild Swan" is one of several, generally smaller, still lifes Carlsen executed on the theme of a swan or goose and a copper pot. The thinly painted canvas includes many features typical of his still life compositions: a commonplace metallic kitchen pot, something that hypothetically, at least, is the raw material of a meal, an unspecified background with an ambiguous juncture of horizontal and vertical planes, and a dull, silvery tonality which creates the impression of illumination by moonlight.
