Label TextA relative of the then "late Mrs. Palmer" presented to the Academy a "life size" portrait by her of her husband, which the Council accepted in 1924. That work seems no longer extant in the collection. In 1925, the Council accepted a self-portrait by Mrs. Palmer, presented by another relative, Mrs. Marguerite Mahoney. On the circumstantial evidence that Mrs. Mahoney's gift is the only unaccounted for portrait of a woman accessioned by the Academy in the period appropriate to the costume of this sitter it is believed this work is Mrs. Palmer's self-portrait.
