Label TextBerneker presented a portrait by his wife, Maud Fox Berneker, as his ANA diploma portrait; it was accepted May 19, 1931, with the understanding it was unfinished and would be completed shortly. This portrait by Cole is not referenced in Academy minutes, but is likely a de facto diploma presentation in replacement for the portrait by Mrs. Berneker. The portrait by Mrs. Berneker remains in the Academy collection.
