Label TextBritish-born, Coe has often expressed in her work her dedication to human and animal rights. This print is from her series "Porkopolis" dealing with the subject of slaughterhouses and cruelty to animals. As part of her research, she visited slaughterhouses and meatpacking plants in the United States. Her expressionism led her in this work to use a lithographic crayon as well as lithographic ink (tusche) to produce dark areas where the killing occurs and to use the paper as a source of dramatic light surrounding the next victim.
