Label TextPatricia Nix appreciates the sunflowers in Texas, where she grew up, "in Texas, they have these big fields…sort of like in Dr. Zhivago," she said. The repetition of a circle in a square is very important to the artist; she has used a checkerboard motif since she was a child. The division of the painting into squares is a common feature of her art and relates her paintings to her box constructions and collages, which are surrealist in style.
