Label TextArms was trained as an architect. He became a distinguished etcher and is noted for his depictions of architectural exteriors, particularly those of Gothic cathedrals and Venetian palaces, in which he rendered the extraordinarily complex details of form, tone, and texture with great skill. In this work, which he cited first in a short list of his "good and enduring" prints, Arms used innumerable minute dots (stippling) for some of the shading and surface textures and defined other areas with extremely small parallel lines.
