Label TextMrs. Leicester Lewis, the model in this portrait, may have been a summer resident of the colony at Cragsmoor, New York, where Turner maintained a permanent summer home during the first several decades of the century. In a blue suit, wearing black hat trimmed with pink flowers, Lewis holds a pink parasol with her right hand. Although exhibited as a portrait of Lewis, this parasol suggests the title under which the work was accepted by the Academy.
